Brakes
Most internal combustion (IC) forklifts are equipped with the drum brake system. Electric forklifts are equipped with disc brakes controlled by hydraulics or disc brakes controlled by electric or hydraulics. Most of the newer units are controlled by an electromagnetic coil.
I have been doing both disc and drum brakes since I was old enough to drive. I am very efficient in repairing the drum brake system. You will find most tech today struggle with these brakes and return several times to get it right. Don’t leave the safety of your operators in the hands of inexperience.
My experience in most cases will save you money due to the time saved having me do your brakes. Most dealers will charge you a full eight-hour day to complete a drum brake job. I have been doing drum brakes for over twenty years and can do them much faster than most technicians.
Cylinder Repair
Below is a cylinder on a unit that has been neglected for some time. If you don’t do the preventive maintenance, there is likely going to be other issues.
I can do most cylinder repairs on site and have you back up and running the day I have a seal kit in hand.
Timing Belts
The timing belt can be a critical part of maintenance on a forklift. Some of the newer Hyster’s and Yale trucks now have interference engines. This means if the timing belt breaks, engine damage will occur. These belts should be replaced every 5,000 hours to prevent breaking and being very costly.
Some water pumps are operated by the timing belt, and it is recommended to replace them when replacing the belt. As you can see in the picture below, the water pump is behind the timing belt and should be replaced when the timing belt is removed.
Lift Chains
There is a wear limit on lift chains and that is 2%.

Fuel System Diagnostics & Repair
There are several different fuel systems on forklifts. I am very proficient at troubleshooting all of these systems. Below is the older basic fuel system with a simple fuel convertor. The convertor/regulator does both convert the fuel from a liquid to a gas and regulates the pressure.
Below is a fuel vaporizer that is icing over, most likely due to a low coolant level. These vaporizers use the engine coolant to help convert the freezing LPG to a vapor. If the cooling system is low, they will freeze over like the one below and the truck may start but will run terrible.
